One of the largest airlines in the US and the world, United, announced that its in-flight entertainment system will now have 4K screens to enjoy multimedia content and Bluetooth in flight.
The airline announced the installation of nearly 300,000 Panasonic Avionics Astrova in-flight entertainment (IFE) displays on new Boeing 787 and Airbus A321XLR aircraft, as well as economy class aircraft.
These are seat back displays that use 4K OLED technology, which promises sharper image quality and better contrast ratio than many other IFE systems. The company says Astrova can also provide high-quality 3D spatial audio with its latest Bluetooth technology. Astrova also comes with USB-C ports capable of charging your phones and tablets with 100W DC power.
As he points out Aviation Week, Boeing 787 and Airbus A321XLR are part of United’s international fleet, but the airline will also equip its domestic aircraft with Astrova IFE systems. The screens will be installed as part of the United Next program, which aims to place screens in the in-flight seatbacks of every seat. United plans to give First Class passengers access to 13-inch screens and Economy Class passengers access to 10-inch IFE screens.
