The Swiss startup Sun-Ways is planning to implement a project to install window vents on the railway tracks near Butte Station, where they are bred between the rails. Work will begin as soon as permission from the Federal Transportation Administration is received.

By the way, this is not the first attempt to combine flat surfaces with solar panels – it was previously proposed by Rinimali by the Italian company Greenrail and the British Bankset Energy.

The main differences of the Swiss experiment are that the Sun-Ways panels are standard, while their participants have a slightly smaller one. In addition, Sun-Ways’ paving process is fully equipped with a dedicated train. The installation of 60 panels on a 46.2 m plot is scheduled to close during the summer. The project budget is $560,000.

initially, all electricity generated is consumed by local households, and in the future part of it will be directed to electric trains.

According to Sun-Ways co-founder Baptiste Danihert, if the experiment goes well, then the feasible prospect is to cover the 5,000-kilometer set of Swiss railways with panels, which will generate up to 1 gigawatt of energy per year. This capacity will be sufficient to achieve the high capacity of 750,000 households.

The panel laying will be separated from two train cars – they will be stored in one panel, and they will be laid. If necessary, the same train dismantles the panel.

However, during the implementation of the project, Sun-Ways engineers solve a number of technical problems – in particular, the protection of panels from panels to connection points to points networks.
