The State Duma proposed to introduce compulsory licenses of educational platform courses. This will not affect all courses, but only those after which the student receives a diploma. Industry-specific universities will be involved in verifying the content of such courses.

Educational platforms may require you to obtain a license for their courses

The State Duma is discussing the introduction of compulsory licenses of educational platform courses. The deputy of the lower house of parliament, Alexander Khinshtein, wrote about this on his telegram channel. It is planned to involve the universities of the industry in this process.

“The concept states that the higher school will participate in the analysis of the courses through Rosobrnadzor and Rosakkreditatsiya,” Khinshtein said.

According to Khinshtein, the initiative will not affect trainings and webinars.

“Simply put, if you teach your social media followers how to plant seedlings, you won’t need certification. But if it is CVE (Additional Vocational Training), as a result of which a diploma is issued, then the materials must undergo appropriate accreditation, as in offline education,” the deputy explained.

At the moment, only the educational platforms themselves are subject to licensing, and not the courses they teach. Online platforms that deliver educational courses receive a license for their activities from the regional ministries of education and science.
