In May, inflation in Russia accelerated to 2.51% (from 2.31% in April), in monthly terms, consumer prices increased by 0.31% (from the beginning of the year – 2.38% ). In January-May 2023, total inflation reached 6.03% compared to January-May 2022.
Such figures are provided by Rosstat and note that the prices of food products are growing less than those of non-food products (the latter gave an increase of 0.34% per month and 0.16% per year compared to May 2022 ).
Gas motor fuel became more expensive in May by almost 26% compared to April prices. In May of this year, compared to May of last year, prices went up:
- foreign tourism – by 48.64%,
- tobacco products – by 10.76%,
- medicines – by 3%,
- services and services – by 11.02% (directly housing and communal services – by 12%),
- passenger transport — by 16%,
- postal service – by 10.5%,
Of the food products for the month of April to May, cabbage (+86.6%), carrots (+21.4%), sugar (+6%), chickens (+5.4%) especially rose in price. For the year from May 2022 to May 2023, cereals and legumes fell in price (by 16%), some vegetables (by 10%). Of non-food products, only television and radio products fell in price, by 21.9%.
The Ministry of Economic Development also calculated the price increase for the week of May 30 to June 5, amounted to 2.68% compared to the same period in 2022. In general, during the year, consumer prices in the Russian Federation increased by 11.94%, according to Rosstat calculations in January 2023, and inflation in 2022 (compared to 2021) reached 13.75%.
