The Ministry of Digital Development proposed to include in the software registry programs that are compatible with at least two domestic operating systems. It can take two to three years to finalize the software.

Developers will have to ensure software compatibility with at least two Russian operating systems

The draft resolution is being worked out with industry associations and will be sent to interested departments for approval, Vedomosti writes.

The requirements will apply to both new software and those already included in the registry. The developers of the latter will be given a transition period so that they can refine their programs.

By June 2023, in most of the software on the list, there is no compatibility with two national operating systems at the same time, since at first there was no such criterion, experts said. Red Soft CEO Rustam Rustamov added that this is a reasonable move, as “the market needs an ecosystem, not individual products.”

Starting January 1, 2016, Russian developers can apply and enter the national software registry. S4 Consulting CEO Aigul Shadrina told RB.RU what Russian IT gets from this and how to enter the registry, and also shares samples of the documents required for the application.
