The previous day, the interim president of Abkhazia Badra Gunba in a meeting with Russia’s Minister of Transportation, Roman Staritit, said that for the summer, regular air traffic would be launched between Moscow and Sukhum.

Sukhumsky’s airport is located 18 km from the capital of Abjasia, not far from the Drand town of the Gulrypsh district. The port closed in 1993, during the Georgian war in Abkhaz. Before closing, the air port could take up to 5,000 passengers per day. In October 2023, the leadership of the Republic agreed with the Russian company “Infrastructure Development” on the reconstruction of the installation.

At the end of December, Vladimir Putin said that for six years in Russia they will rebuild at least 75 airports, more than a third of the airport network throughout Russia. 250 billion rules of the budget will be assigned for these purposes.
