The powers of the FTC were previously thought to be limited to combating “unfair or deceptive” business practices. However, under President Lina Khan’s leadership, the FTC has become more aggressive in its fight against “data misuse”.

The Commission is “fighting” against data leaks and privacy breaches by expanding existing rules.

Gizmodo is highlighting the FTC lawsuit against GoodRX, a drug voucher service that led to a rule in the country that required healthcare companies to disclose data breaches, expanding legal protections to include medical data for the first time in the United States.
