Roskosmos is currently working on projects related to the creation of satellite constellations that will be used for remote sensing of the Earth. One of the main tasks of these satellite constellations is to estimate carbon emissions from industry in Russia and neighboring countries. Alexander Bloshenko, Roscosmos’ executive director of advanced programs and science, told St. He mentioned this during a discussion at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Bloshenko stressed the importance of developing his own methods and tools for objective control of carbon emissions. This will make it possible to assess the contribution of industry in Russia and neighboring countries to climate change. The developed methodologies can then be used internationally to calculate and control the carbon footprint.

He also recalled existing satellite constellations such as Electro, Meteor and Arktika, designed to assess the current situation in Russia. These satellites serve to meet the hydrometeorological needs of the country and to join the international communities.
