Due to the fact that the United States in China is officially allowed to produce American technologies, including artificial intelligence chips.
However, China has a thriving illegal trade market where you can find anything. In particular, we are talking about the Huaqiangbei district in Shenzhen. The first 10 floors of the SEG Plaza skyscraper are crowded with shops selling prohibited equipment: from spare parts to full-fledged drones. Among them there are those who sell top AI chips from Nvidia – no one talks about this, but you can find them during the transfer.
They confirmed to Reuters at least twice that they sold them A100 chips for $20,000 apiece. This is double the official price. At the same time, the sellers immediately said that there would be no guarantee or support.
Ten vendors were willing to supply a large number of Nvidia AI chips.
The buyers of such studies are usually mobile apps, startups, exporters or gamers, said the vendors on condition of anonymity because exports are US import trade borders. One seller even said that there are Chinese local food sources among the buyers.
Nvidia told Reuters it is not officially shipping the A100 and H100 chips to China. However, they allow for a more complex version, this is allowed by the US Trade Commission.
The complex works closely with glucose to prevent the formation of illegal imports of their products into the country. Each case is investigated separately.
Chinese chip sellers choose to buy two kinds: stockpiling themselves surplus stock that comes to market after Nvidia adjusts large volumes of a sensible firm, or through imports through local companies listed in India, Taiwan and Singapore.
According to research firm TrendForce, a neural network model similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT has more than 30,000 Nvidia A100 boards. This small number can perform complex machine manufacturing tasks and improve the solution of an AI model.
The market in SEG Plaza does not end with the deployment of sellers. The AI chips can also be found on Alibaba, the Taobao e-commerce site, Xiaohongshu social media, probably Instagram, and Douyin, the likely version of TikTok. Some manufacturers note that the distribution and practice of selling refurbished A100s under the guise of new ones. [Reuters]
