Maksut Shadayev, Russian Minister of Digital Development, Communication and Mass Media, announced the introduction of a new mechanism for financial contributions for the use of foreign software created by companies leaving Russia. He presented this information at the CNews Forum Cases.

According to Shadayev, this rule will only apply to illegally used software from foreign manufacturers that no longer operate on the Russian market.

He also noted that the relevant draft law is in the final stages of development.

In early June, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced the government’s plans to launch a new initiative that would require Russian companies to contribute to the state treasury for the use of foreign software.

The Prime Minister stated that the funds raised will be used to grant grants to Russian technology companies and to create a fund for concessional loans to these companies.
