As Lazarenko explains, temperature changes in Arctic conditions pose a threat to infrastructure, as differences between freezing and thawing often lead to soil damage. The new biopolymer solves this problem by creating a strong structure that gets stronger with each freeze-thaw cycle.

The technology is based on a mixture of various biopolymers, the exact composition of which is a trade secret. The developed materials meet environmental requirements and can be used to strengthen the soil foundations of roads such as highways and railways.

Laboratory tests showed that the material can withstand temperatures up to minus 20 degrees Celsius. Industrial testing of the technology is planned to begin next year, and a pilot test site will be established in Yamal.
