The Ministry of Digital Development is considering the possibility of canceling the blockade of a number of pirate cinemas that show films from Western companies that are not officially shown in Russia.
“The Ministry of Digital Development, together with industry representatives, is working on proposals to drop access restrictions on sites offering unlicensed video content from major Western companies under certain conditions,” an industry source said. to RIA Novosti.
The cancellation conditions include:
- the film is not legally presented on Russian online services,
- not in theaters
- does not contain extremist materials or LGBT propaganda.
Following the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, some Western film companies and streaming services suspended distribution of their projects in Russia. Among them are Disney, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros and Netflix.
The number of pirate movie theaters has increased in Russia in the fall of 2021. Its rise was influenced by lockdowns and QR codes for visiting theaters in some regions.
