According to data from a survey commissioned by Kaspersky Lab by Online Market Intelligence, 20% of Russians tried to play them while in contact with phone or Internet scammers.
127 people from all over the country participated. The majority – 61% – immediately hung up when they realized they were dealing with intruders.
Of those surveyed, 8% cursed the scammers, 6% humiliated them, and 4% chatted with them about life. Another 2% of Russians surveyed tried to deter their interlocutors from engaging in illegal activities.
Kaspersky Lab experts warn that attempts to prank or humiliate a scammer can backfire on the average person. In particular, cases were noted when the number “joker” was used as a substitute to deceive other people. As a result, they received calls from deceived citizens demanding that they return the money.
Experts emphasize that the best strategy when searching for an intruder is to end the call immediately.
