The State Duma, together with Roskomnadzor (RKN), is developing a bill that introduces the concept of “deep forgery” into the legal field, Izvestia writes.

The State Duma will legislate the term “deepfake”

The document is being prepared by the Duma Committee on Information Policy. According to the head of the committee, Alexander Khinshtein, deep fakes are no longer unique today, people are increasingly using this technology.

As Oleg Matveychev, deputy chairman of the committee, points out, in the next three to five years the trend will only increase, which means that scammers may become more active. Attackers can start calling people, posing as their relatives.

“That is, for example, your relative will call you, you will recognize him very well, he will also joke, use the same parasitic words. You can’t tell it apart. And then he will say: “Send me 20 thousand rubles urgently,” explains Matveychev.

It is planned to submit the bill to the State Duma in the autumn session.

Kaspersky Lab conducted a study and discovered the prices of creating deepfakes on the dark web. The company looked at various forums with such a proposal, including Russian ones.

Earlier, the VKontakte social network reported on the work on a service for recognizing deepfakes.
