It is possible to obtain user data through VPN services to the extent possible through other sources and applications. Sergey Kuzmenko, head of information security at the Roskachestvo Center for Digital Expertise, says that unscrupulous developers monitoring traffic can sell data for profit. A person can know this is happening if they start seeing targeted ads.
You can understand that intruders have gained access to a computer when folders and files appear on the desktop or in the system folder, or, conversely, disappear or start to open and close for no reason. The most dangerous sign is when all media files and documents on the computer become encrypted and unreadable.
Experts say that in the first two cases, it will help to temporarily disconnect the computer from the Internet, check the device with an antivirus and remove unnecessary or suspicious applications. After that, you should check the system for updates and change your accounts passwords.
The chances of the antivirus being familiar with the malware in the latter case are rather misleading, but on Roskachestvo they state that it exists. But in most cases, as practice shows, you will have to reinstall the operating system from scratch. Files can only be saved by backing up in cloud storage.
Experts reminded that VPN programs should be chosen wisely and only proven, preferably paid versions should be installed.
