Philip Shoemaker, former head of app review at the App Store, criticized the company’s strict store policies in an interview with MobileGamer.

The App Store rules were written “very gray,” he said, to give Apple more room to make informed decisions about what apps the company wants to see on its platform.

In 2017, the company changed, but the procedure for checking applications did not become transparent.

Shoemaker opposed the 30% App Store commission. He argues that it made sense in 2009 when Apple created a new build and introduced never-before-seen tools, but things have now changed.

In addition, Shoemaker specifically criticized Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of marketing.

According to Shoemaker, Schiller still follows the ideals of Steve Jobs, as he did with the first flying gesture in the App Store. Every week he meets with the group and discusses several times what apps and games he allows or removes from the App Store. [MobileGamer]
