The submarine manufactured by OceanGate disappeared approximately one hour and forty-five minutes after starting its voyage on June 18, 2023. Hopes were initially high for a successful rescue operation, provided with 96 hours of air.

The US Coast Guard conducted a major search operation using remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to scan the depths of the ocean. Sonar technology, used from aircraft, buoys and reconnaissance vessels, has also been used to detect any signs of submersion.

Among those on Titan are British billionaire Hamish Harding, known for his suborbital flight with Blue Origin, Pakistani billionaire Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, French explorer Paul-Henri Nargeole, and OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush.

At a recent press conference, U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral John Mauger confirmed that the submarine had exploded due to pressure. The wreckage indicating the disappearance of the bathyscaphe was found on the seafloor using the ROV.
