The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division is issuing a directive that expressly prohibits military personnel from turning on or otherwise interacting with smartwatches received in the mail. Recently, a real wave swept there – citizens reported about the unexpected receipt of various gadgets that they did not order. This mailing list is dominated by smartwatches and has been found to be leaking that someone is trying to set up a covert spy network.
There is a legal, but not too open, method for promoting brands or marketplaces. The fact that random people are sent goods for free, and then rave reviews are interested on their behalf. It’s hard to argue, and it doesn’t make any sense to consumers, so many people just leave free stuff with them and cause consequences.
Because of this, vigilance is dulled and then hackers come into play. Devices such as smart watches connect to all available wireless networks without the user’s knowledge. They incognito collect various information using the built-in camera and microphone. A separate problem is the collection of biometric data and surveillance of the movement of users.
No wonder Americans are so worried, because the wearer of the watch can become a free spy without knowing it. Confirmed cases have not yet been identified, or they are not reported, but this does not negate the fact of the outbreak. Similar advice can be addressed to all experts – if you received a free gadget that you didn’t order, then it’s better to stay away from it and don’t turn on.
