Google has shut down Project Iris, an augmented reality glasses project.

The company has been developing glasses for several years. Clay Bayvora, who uses the VR / AR direction at Google, has decided to close the project.

The development of Project Iris was first announced in January 2022. The gadget looked like ski goggles. According to Google employees, it was a device developed jointly with Samsung. The real Project Iris looked more like regular glasses.

Now Google is completely focused on the software platform for the development of augmented reality, and not on the hardware. [Insider]
