Tinkoff Bank and Alfa-Bank have launched the Tinkoff Pay and Alfa Pay services, which will be available for Android-based smartphones and Mir cardholders, RBC reports, citing representatives of credit institutions. These services allow you to pay contactlessly using smartphones.

Tinkoff and Alfa-Bank launched their own services for smartphone payments

Banks decided to launch alternatives against the background of Russia’s exit from Google Pay and Apple Pay.

Tinkoff introduced Tinkoff Pay in 2022, but previously it only worked online, now the technology has been expanded to include offline purchases. Alfa Pay is available for online and offline payments. You can pay by phone whenever contactless payment is possible.

Payment by Tinkoff Pay will appear for all users within a week. To connect Alfa Pay, you need to update the application through the NashStore, RuStore or on the official website of the bank, connect the Mir card to the payment function of the smartphone. The service will appear to customers gradually.

  • Contactless payment systems have been developing in Russia since 2016, the Russian Federation was among the world leaders in terms of the number of bank cards tied to Google Pay and Apple Pay. In the spring of 2022, the services left Russia amid sanctions against the financial sector.
  • Now you can pay contactless with NFC technology through Samsung Pay, SberPay, MirPay (they only work with Android smartphones and Mir cards). There is also a QR code payment via “SBPey” and SberPay.
