Netflix wants to force you to watch ads (unless you pay more)
Netflix has made another controversial decision and is removing the basic ad-free plan from its subscription options.
Just a few months ago, Netflix included a new, cheaper plan in exchange for viewing ads. Curiously, Netflix became popular for being an ad-free platform, but eventually followed the same strategy as traditional television. But it doesn’t end here Apparently, Netflix wants all its customers to see ads.unless they pay more for their subscription.
- Apple TV on Windows
- Download movies from Netflix
- Turn on the TV with Siri
- Apple TV Must Watch Series
This intent was already evident a few weeks ago when we told you that Netflix’s strategy is to hide its basic plan so that more people choose the advertised plan. But now the company has become more radical, completely removes the basic plan from the options, forcing you to subscribe to the standard plan with ads or pay more for the most expensive subscriptions.
Netflix is making a controversial new move
Netflix removes basic ad-free plan from options
Now, Netflix removed the basic plan only in Canada, where this is no longer one of the options available to new users. The company didn’t elaborate on whether the decision is permanent, whether it will expand to more countries or what will happen to existing subscribers of the basic plan.
In most countries, Netflix currently has four different subscription plans: Ad standard, Basic, Standard and Premium. Prices in Spain are 5.49, 7.99, 12.99 and 17.99 euros per month. But it looks like a trial has begun in Canada that could soon expand to more countries.
ADVERTISING STANDARD | NECESSARY | STANDARD | PRIZE |
---|---|---|---|
5.49 Euros per month | € 7.99 per month | 12.99 Euros per month | 17.99 € per month |
4-5 minute ads per hour | ad-free | ad-free | ad-free |
Up to Full HD 1080p | up to HD 720p | Up to Full HD 1080p | Up to Ultra HD 4K |
If Netflix removes the existing basic plan, we will only have 3 subscription options, one basic with ads and two expensive options with ads. If this strategy is extended to Spain, If you don’t want to see ads on Netflix, you’ll go from paying €7.99 a month for the Basic Plan to €12.99 a month for the Standard plan.. That means 5 euros more per month.
This strategy adds to the previous strategy that banned the sharing of Netflix passwords, which caused the platform to lose many users. A controversial new decision, but Looks like Netflix needs to keep growing its revenue even if you make decisions that few users will understand to do so.
