As of October 1, 2023, the Central Bank will set a minimum damage limit for card insurance. It will be 100 thousand rubles. If less is stolen from the card, the insurer will be obliged to reimburse the customer in full.

The financial market Vyberu.ru studied how cardholders feel about this initiative. RB.RU got acquainted with the results of the survey.

Almost a third of Russians see no point in bank card insurance reimbursement: study

32% of those surveyed believe that the innovation will not solve the problem of the loss of funds, since it does not imply the return of the damage to the victims of social engineering.

Another 43% are confident that insurance companies will find an opportunity to underestimate the amount of compensation.

13% of customers are convinced that the introduction of a minimum limit will negatively affect the cost of card insurance. And only 12% of those surveyed assume that the initiative will bring a positive result and allow more complete compensation for the damage.

Vyberu.ru CEO Yaroslav Bajurak notes that the very idea of introducing a minimum limit for damages in policies is correct. However, the problem is not only in the reimbursement amount itself, but also in the fact that policies often do not include many of the cases for which customers buy insurance.

The expert believes that if such cases are prescribed by law, the situation will change for the better, and the product will be more in demand, banks will begin to compete with each other, offering large amounts of coverage.

3,000 Russian bank customers participated in the Vyberu.ru survey.
