The Central Bank of Russia is in no hurry to introduce the digital currency and considers ensuring the security and reliability of the new platform as a priority.
Olga Skorobogatova, the first vice-president of the Central Bank of Russia, noted that full-scale implementation will take several years, and the pilot project will begin this year and next.
The pilot project will include 13 banks, including Sberbank, VTB, Gazprombank, Tinkoff and others. And with them 30 businesses from different sectors in 11 cities of the country.
Working on the digital ruble transaction scheme without the Internet will be done later, as it requires special technological solutions.
Bank of Russia plans to use the experience of other countries, including China, which has been testing the digital yuan for over three years. The introduction of the digital ruble will be carried out gradually, based on the analysis of feedback from customers, businesses and banks so that the system can be gradually improved.
