Itemma in Kostroma started production of anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and electronic stability control systems (ESP) for passenger cars.

The company received a license that allows localization of all components of the two complexes – an electric motor, electronics and a casing. For production, a new workshop was built with a fully automated line meeting all international standards. The plant in Kostroma can produce 850,000 systems per year and up to 1.2 million if additional equipment is installed.

Vasily Shpak, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, emphasized that the ABS and ESP electronic systems are an essential element of the car. ABS prevents the vehicle’s wheels from locking when braking, and ESP prevents skidding.

Previously, these systems were produced at Bosch’s factory in Samara, but production was discontinued here a year ago. Later, the technical regulations were simplified, allowing the production of cars without these systems so that the conveyors would not stop. In December, ABS installation will become mandatory again.
