Researchers from the Federal Research Center for Coal and Coal Chemistry (FRC CCC) of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences have developed a universal grain that will improve the productivity of coal mining and other minerals.

The development is based on a walking support, a self-propelled machine that prevents rocks from collapsing, supporting the roof and sides of the working mine. They are used in emergency rescue operations as well as to aid in the advancement of other mining machinery development. However, walking aids are slow and difficult to design and manage.

At the request of the coal companies, the researchers developed a support that optimizes the operation of the deep vein mining complex; this is an autonomous system that allows coal to be extracted where it would not be profitable in a conventional open pit.

Developed by experts, the support is equipped with a hydraulic hammer to break up large chunks of rock and buckets for loading rock onto a scraper conveyor. Also, scientists have developed special software that allows you to remotely control the machine.

The machine, one of the leading researchers of the FRC UUH SB RAS Laboratory for Effective Technologies for Coalfield Development, states that the machine, Boris Anferov, will allow the development of coal reserves outside of steep seams. They often contain valuable minerals (e.g. diamonds and gold) that are much more valuable than the cost of extracting the rock mass containing them.

It is planned to commission a new plant from 2024 at the Yuzhnaya mine in Kuzbass.
