Apple has long started selling ad spaces in the App Store. However, the new ad format has arrived in the Today tab, which is the first tab users open when they open the App Store. The ad appears just below the main area, which is still non-sponsored content and the user doesn’t need to scroll to see it.
Because the new ad format is simpler and doesn’t include screenshots or detailed information, Apple believes it will be easier to get permission to place ads in this space. Clicking on an ad takes the user to a product page where the advertiser’s provided image is displayed. Of course, Apple still needs to approve the ad’s icon, title, and subtitle.
