More than a decade after the failure of Watson, the first major AI system, IBM wants to capitalize on the explosion in productive AI technologies capable of writing human-like text.
One of the hurdles faced by the legacy Watson system was the high cost that IBM hoped to overcome this time. According to the head of the company, using his own chips can reduce the cost of cloud services.
IBM didn’t give a timeline for when the chip could be made available to cloud computing customers, but the company already has several thousand prototypes.
