Emojipedia, the reference website for emoji documentation in the Unicode standard, Announcing that 108 “small faces” are expected to be released for iOS 17 by next year, including skin tone changes and gender variations.

The new package will be submitted to Unicode approval in September of this year and will arrive in an upcoming update to Apple’s mobile system. The list includes “yes” and “no” nods, a lime green (currently available in Sicily only), and a phoenix.

The list also includes variations of some emoji, such as people running or walking, but on the left. There are icons, but the “babies” go in opposite directions. Also other genderless emojis should be added.

Availability

After approval in September, each supplier (e.g. apple, Google This SAMSUNG) individually adopt symbols and special designs.

If Apple follows the iOS 16 trend, this new wave of emoji will be released in March 2024, with the iOS 17.2 or iOS 17.3 rollout. The company released the first public beta of iOS 17 last Tuesday (12).
