Kuo’s latest supply chain research on Apple shows that Apple is actively pursuing 3D printing technology. Titanium components of the new Apple Watch, such as the crown, side button, and action button, will be 3D printed instead of the existing CNC machining process.

Such a switch can increase production efficiency and reduce costs. Kuo believes that 3D printing could be used in other Apple products in the future if initial shipments go smoothly.

This report also confirms previous claims by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman that the Apple Watch Ultra will debut alongside the Apple Watch Series 9 later this year.
