Scientists from Carnegie Mellon University have built conventional Wi-Fi routers in CCTV cameras.
They use radio signals from routers to locate and mass-produce the world’s computers that work like lidar.
Three $30 computers and Wi-Fi signal reflectors were purchased to monitor the operation of the technologies. Thanks to them, the system can distinguish static objects from moving ones.
The developed technology does not allow recording video, but the movement of people in space, somewhere on the wall, can change. To draw them, the DensePose neural network is used, which can draw silhouettes of people in various poses.
Scientists believe that calcium can be used to monitor bedridden patients or simply monitor the situation inside the house when no one is around. [ZME Science]
