Until the end of 2023, all Internet traffic in Russia will go through special systems to counter cyber threats (TSPU). If the operators do not do this, they will be fined from 1 to 5 million rubles (in case of repeated violation).
At the same time, the management of the communications company can be fined 1.5 million rubles. In case of a malicious violation, an official can face up to three years in prison, Roskomnadzor warned, Izvestia writes.
Such blockers are necessary in the current geopolitical situation – the security system will prevent many troubles, including the complete shutdown of the Internet in Russia, experts say. At the same time, the systems successfully protect users from inappropriate content, they say.
TSPU is a set of devices called sovereign Internet, which since 2019 have been installed in the communication centers of the operators. The equipment is updated annually. The task of the system is to protect Runet from propaganda of suicides, drugs and other prohibited content.
- On November 1, 2019, the law on the “Sovereign Runet” entered into force in Russia. The authors of the law are Senators Andrei Klishas and Lyudmila Bokova, as well as Deputy Andrei Lugovoi. According to the national program “Digital Economy”, the cost of implementing the law would be more than 30 billion rubles, of which 20.8 billion rubles went to the purchase of equipment.
