The State Duma in first reading approved the bill on the regulation of recommender algorithms.

Deputies of the State Duma supported at first reading a bill on regulation of recommender algorithms for Internet services. This was reported on the website of the State Duma.

The bill assumes that the owners of sites and services that use recommendation algorithms will have to inform users about the methods of collecting and analyzing user data, publish information about the rules for using recommendation algorithms.

In case of violation of the law, Roskomnadzor may block recommendation algorithms or a resource that uses them.

The author of the initiative, State Duma deputy Anton Gorelkin, said that the bill would be amended at the second reading. If adopted, it will go into effect on October 1, 2023.
