The UK lifted the sanctions against Oleg Tinkov. This is stated in government documents.
Tinkov was under UK sanctions as of March 2022. This meant he was banned from entering the country’s ports on personal yachts, as well as from flying on personal planes.
In October last year, Tinkov announced the renunciation of Russian citizenship and sold his business, and in March 2023 he turned to the British Foreign Office with a request to have the sanctions lifted, Bloomberg reported.
Earlier, the founder of Virgin Group, billionaire Richard Branson, also called for lifting the sanctions on the businessman. In his letter to the British government, he noted that although Tinkov “was a wealthy businessman, he was never an oligarch.”
In early July this year, the UK also removed the former first vice-chairman of Sberbank’s board of directors, Lev Khasis, from the sanctions list. He, like Tinkov, fell under them in March 2022 after the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine.
