According to scientific studies, they are about 10 years behind in the field of cyber security. Experts have found numerous vulnerabilities and key encryption shortcomings in the firmware of Estonia’s ESTCube-1 cube satellite, the European Space Agency’s OPS-SAT open research platform, and the smaller Flying Laptop satellite.

In total, the researchers found 13 vulnerabilities that could be exploited by attackers to gain full control over the devices and even lead them to other satellites, leading to dangerous space debris.
