In 2022, online cinema revenues grew by 5%. At the same time, in the context of sanctions, its libraries have shrunk by an average of 10%, and alternative content purchased instead of foreign films and series does not always attract customers.

More than 25% of Russians intend to cancel their subscription to online cinemas

In the near future, 25% of users of video services intend to unsubscribe from them. The main reason is the high price of media access, B1 and TelecomDaily’s Kommersant learned.

32% of those who are going to unsubscribe will do so after watching a specific series, 11% received a subscription as a gift and do not plan to buy it, another 10% are not satisfied with the content selection, 3% reported poor quality of service.

This year, the growth of online movie users may be unsustainable due to problems with the replacement of foreign content, analysts say. However, Russian video streamers hope to prevent audience exit through their own content.

After Walt Disney, Warner Bros., Sony Pictures, and Universal Pictures launched a special operation in Ukraine, Netflix decided to exit the Russian market.
