The Meta* license agreement for Llama 2 reportedly contains restrictions that prevent the model from being used to train other language models. OSI CEO Stefano Maffulli said open source technology should give developers and users the freedom to use it without vendor restrictions or interference. The commercial use and scope restrictions imposed on the Meta* license have caused a wave of criticism.
Therefore, Karen Sadler, executive director of the Software Freedom Conservancy, argued that Llama 2 did not meet the open source criteria, noting the language in the license and the lack of a public development process.
