I’m wearing an Apple Watch Series 7 with a band that was released in 2015. There he is, in the photo above. I have exactly five such old, but still relevant belts. The total number of bracelets for AW exceeds three dozen.
The backwards compatibility of all straps between generations of watches is one of the coolest features of the Apple Watch, which has kept this watch on millions and millions of other wrists for 8 years now. Fans of the history of devices for his almost ten years have accumulated large sums of belt superiority.
What went with the very first “small” Apple Watch fits perfectly today on the still current 41mm Apple Watch Series 8. And what happened for the 40mm Apple Watch can be worn not only on the 44mm model, but even on the Apple Watch Ultra.
This super-continuity of accessories pleases, but is not inherent in Apple. And, alas, it is about to become a thing of the past, judging by the many recent sources.
Apple plans to switch to new Apple Watch mounts
According to the already original source, in Bloomberg’s respected and almost never-missing Gourmet, the tenth generation of the Apple Watch will have a completely new kind of mount – magnetic. They are necessary for the use of the watch and its large redesign, which is planned in this “anniversary” version. Apple wants to repeat what it once did with the iPhone X, opening up a new leaf of actionable language for generations to come.
Whatever the design of the Apple Watch X, in the end, one thing is clear: old belts don’t fit.. And this means that it is not worth buying straps, as before.
Read this as an early warning to those who are eyeing some original block bracelet or leather belt for relatively decent money.
Still want to buy an Apple Watch band? Better not pay
I am somehow even sad to give the following advice, but it is objectively correct. Even if it is desirable to buy straps for Apple watches, then look in the direction of “clones”, ready-made and expected inexpensive options.
It is clear that the current straps can continue to attach to the previous watch. But their next upgrade will still force them to say goodbye to the old belts. Therefore, alas, today I advise you to choose “China” so that tomorrow you won’t be offended.
