Endovascular surgery is a less invasive treatment for cardiovascular disease. The doctor inserts a special catheter through a small hole in the skin, eliminating the need for surgery.
On the other hand, open surgery involves incision of tissue to perform the operation and is a more invasive procedure. Ivan Vinokurov, Principal Investigator at the RNCCH named after Academician BV Petrovsky, emphasized that the hybrid approach is effectively used in cases where, for example, arteries in the pelvis and thighs are damaged. Hybrid operation provides access to physicians in cases where stenting with the endovascular method becomes impossible.
According to Vinokurov, hybrid surgeries have one advantage for patients: they are less traumatic, require less anesthesia, and allow faster recovery compared to traditional open surgery.
