The new hardware allows potential buyers to save up to $10,000, but they also have to compromise on range.

After restyling in 2021, Tesla introduced the Standard Range version to its range of Model S and Model X trim levels. The Model S starts at $78,490 and the Model X starts at $88,490.

However, the Model S can now travel only 512 km on a single charge, which was 648 km before, and its 96 km / h acceleration time has increased from 3.1 seconds to 3.7 seconds.

The Model X crossover in the new configuration can accelerate to 96 km / h in 4.4 seconds and travel approximately 430 km. In the more expensive version, these figures are 557 km and 3.8 seconds, respectively.

It is not yet known how Tesla is limiting the range of new versions. However, the company has previously used software limitations on battery capacity, allowing customers to unlock the full range for an additional fee after a certain period of use.
