Analysts of Big Data MTS, studying the anonymous data of the operator, say that for the first time in 1.5 years, the social network VKontakte surpasses Telegram in terms of the number of mobile Internet users.
For the first time since the beginning of 2022, VKontakte has surpassed Telegram in popularity among mobile Internet users, becoming the most popular social network in Russia. In July, VKontakte managed to reverse the trend, attracting 33.1% of users of all social platforms. As reported in the message, Telegram and Odnoklassniki also entered the top three with 32.8% and 20.6% of users, respectively.
First, Telegram surpassed VKontakte in the number of MTS mobile network users in February 2022. After restrictions on accessing foreign social networks in March, users began to migrate to Telegram, and the messenger strengthened its position in 2022 and 2023, becoming an important source of news and entertainment.
However, in the total volume of mobile Internet traffic, Telegram remains the leader, accounting for about 60% of the traffic. For VKontakte, this figure is 22%, for Odnoklassniki it is 18.7%.
