American biologists are studying the microflora of watch straps and fitness trackers.
According to research published in the journal Advances in Infectious Disease, fitness bracelets and smartwatches almost never wash their straps, and dangerous bacteria are almost always found on them.
Serious microbial contamination is observed in more than 95% of the studied straps: staphylococci (detected on 85% of the straps), Pseudomonas (30%), detected rods (60%).
It is noted that in the straps of athletes there is a huge amount of bacteria, especially staphylococci. These bacteria are quite protected, but a number of diseases can occur in people with low immunity.
quite often fruits accumulate on plastic and rubber straps. This is due to the presence of micropores, which facilitate the colonization and fixing of microbes on the surface. Bacteria are less common on metal straps.
Ethanol and Lysol were named as the most effective means for collection. They kill up to 99% of bacteria, regardless of the strap material. [Scirp]
