Miners forced Dropbox to abandon unlimited storage plan

Dropbox File Hosting will cancel a plan that allowed customers to use unlimited space in the cloud to store their data. This is stated in a company statement.

To justify its decision, Dropbox cited frequent misuse of unlimited plan benefits, such as reselling or sharing storage capacity.

On the other hand, Dropbox mentioned the miners of the Chia cryptocurrency, which is extracted on hard drives and uses the power of the physical memory of the drives to mine.

Dropbox will start upgrading existing users to the Unlimited plan on November 1, 2023.
