The company estimates that about 25 million Russians play video games more than five hours a week. XYZ experts interviewed more than a thousand such players. It turned out that last year 67% of gamers bought new games, each of whom bought an average of more than three games.

The director of VK Play, Alexander Mikheev, noted that the video game market is returning to the values of 2021, when spending on games amounted to 177 billion rubles. According to him, at VK the turnover of buy-to-play games (bought and played) more than doubled in annual terms in the second half of the year. Mikheev did not provide specific indicators.

According to the co-founder of the Vengeance Games studio, Konstantin Sakhnov, the actual market figures may be slightly higher due to the large share of the parallel market and the difficulties in calculating its revenue. According to XYZ research, the gray video game market at the end of 2024 accounted for 36% of all sales, that is, about 62.3 billion rubles.

According to Sakhnov, in 2025 we can expect continued growth of the gaming industry by 4% to 6%. According to the forecasts of Strategy Partners and RVI, the Russian video game industry will grow by 5% annually and by 2030 it will reach 257 billion rubles.

In November, Vedomosti reported that Russian gamers spent 52.4 billion rubles on video games in the third quarter of 2024.
