Roskosmos allowed to repeat the mission to the South Pole of the Moon already in 2025, the head of the state corporation, Yuri Borisov, urged “not to turn into a tragedy” the failed attempt to land an interplanetary station on the Moon.

On “Roskosmos” it was allowed to repeat the mission to the moon already in 2025-2026.

“There is no need to turn this into a tragedy, we must draw conclusions and continue to work in this direction,” Borisov told a meeting at the Lavochkina NGO.

He affirmed that the failed attempt does not mean abandoning prospects for exploring the Moon and stressed that scientists and designers “burn with the idea” of continuing the project. Borisov urged to focus on other tasks and admitted that already in 2025 or 2026 the attempt could be repeated.

Earlier, on August 11, Russia launched a mission to the Moon for the first time in 47 years. The Soyuz-2.1b rocket was launched from the Vostochny cosmodrome and was to carry the Luna-25 automatic station.

However, on August 19, the spacecraft collided with an Earth satellite and crashed. According to Roskosmos, the cause of the accident was that the engine did not shut down on time and ran for 127 seconds instead of the scheduled 84.

India this week successfully completed a mission to land a spacecraft on the surface of the moon. The Indian probe “Chandrayan-3” will spend 14 days on the Moon studying the lunar surface and soil. The country became the first country in the world to land near the south pole of the satellite.
