Engineers abandoned the idea of reusable Buran orbital ship, as such a project was no longer needed. This was announced by the head of Roscosmos, Sergey Krikalev.
The idea of a reusable spacecraft similar to Buran is interesting, but only effective in large volumes of space launch streams, and this is not currently the case.
Buran was completed in the late 1980s and was never used again, although the ship made its maiden flight in 1988. However, the experience and technologies developed during the creation of Buran also found their application in other areas of rocket and space technology. This period is also considered the heyday of the space industry, when new modifications of the Soyuz spacecraft were developed, the Mir multi-module space station and the Energiya superheavy launch vehicle were created. Many technical solutions developed at that time continue to be used in modern astronautics.
So while the Buran is not a reusable ship, its legacy has had a significant impact on the development of space technology.
