The film “Meg 2: Abyss” with Jason Statham in the main videos was released in Russian cinemas.

This is a sequel to the 2018 picture, but at the same time more confusing, unpredictable and serious. And it’s good! We were looking forward to another fun Statham Sunday fishing trip, but we got a drama-thriller-and-action movie in one bottle.

We have already seen the novelty and hasten to share our impressions.

A trash movie about a huge science that

What is the movie about: The atema hero goes on a large exploration mission in the underwater depths. During the dangerous event, participants encounter not only megalodons, but also much more dangerous creatures.

The first film (our review) is an endless frenzy, jokes and a demonstration of the “balls of steel” of the great water jumper from England. For those who don’t know, Jason was a member of the UK national diving team for a long time.

No wonder the actor’s love for water. In the picture, he constantly demonstrated that he feels in the water as in his native element. The film is silly and effective. The authors did not worry much about the death of secondary characters, focusing on action and caustic skirmishes between the main characters.

It was funny, low-quality entertainment that tried to take itself too seriously. Dumb, but fun.

The second film pretends to be a completely different genre for the entire time. In the first hour of timekeeping, there is a completely different atmosphere here. Terrible monsters from the depths, a tense scene of traveling across the ocean floor in small submarines. Then a death trap and a showdown between the main characters.

We are even shown a gruesome example of the catastrophic explosion of the Titan submersible that was in the news so much this summer. Horror and fear.

Scenario of the main idea “people vs. giant shark” and occurs over time on several fronts. Rescue with weakening, showdowns between people, family drama, sharks and other creatures. The wrong film was called “All at once.”

At the same time, in an effort to be bigger, scarier, and more garish than the first film, The Meg 2 shamelessly tossed a whole bunch of extra creatures into the mix (who said Jurassic World?). There are not only a few megalodons here, but also other huge toothy monsters.

The film problem is to present everything that happens in high severity. Unexpected, isn’t it?

But at some point, Jason is simply told to “breathe through your nose, so you will survive.” Without any scuba gear, find several kilometers underwater. And you understand – “everything is fine, it’s still the same Meg as a few years ago, just as stupid and senseless.”

And once Jason lines up on the surface of the ocean with the megalodons and makes his way to a tourist resort called Fun Island, everything finally falls into place. Just the perfect name for a place where a bloody bacchanalia is to be.

At this point in the film, all the characters act according to the principle “weakness and courage“. All characters simultaneously atrophy the sense of self-preservation. Someone thinks that sharks can be ignored, someone rushes at prehistoric monsters on land with a shovel, someone refuels a helicopter right into the air. Just a complete absurd amusement park. For autists.

There is almost nothing to see here

Those who wait for terrible bloody moments will again be disappointed. Rated PG-13 again. Again, the absence of bitten limbs, liters of blood and mountains of meat. Boring. As in the first film, megalodons rarely inspire fear.

Scenes filmed from inside the mouths of monsters, showing the unfortunate swimmers, only a few groups, can cause discomfort for viewers.

The breakdowns themselves look ridiculous, spectacular and defies any physical laws. The feeling that the authors of the picture believe that only Fast and Furious fans will come to their film. Those very cool action movies that, in beautiful unrealistic shots, are more beautiful than logic and common sense.

But the film’s real problem is the complete lack of chemistry between the actors, who seem to be producing their lines on the project, ignoring the other actors and only making screen time. Jason just knows that he will win everyone, and he just gets paid extra for talking to coronavirus and characters.

The only funny character in this film who “maybe ironically” from the first frame is DJ (Paige Kennedy), who managed to survive in the first film despite his skin color. The guy learned his lesson and went through serious training in the school of survival, thereby not repeating the stereotypical fate of a black guy in the sequel. He survived again!

This is bad even for category B

In the end, a movie that seemed to promise us crazy underwater adventures and crazy trips with shark monsters eventually turned into something strange.

Instead of going down the path already mapped out and defining a look at the kind of absurdity they expected to see, Meg 2: The Abyss decides to go down the path of pointless intrigue and serious plot twists. How the filmmakers decided that audiences wanted to see drama and intrigue in a movie about giant movies.

Result? We get sinister intruders planning illegal operations on the ocean floor and official dialogue that is boring and unconvincing. Instead of humor and absurdity, we got pathos, intrigue and idiocy. Not the case when the substitution of concepts like the film.
