More than 60% of the residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg would like to ban the rental service of electric scooters in their cities. Among the arguments, they are often thrown on sidewalks, bus stops, driven by drunk people, and electric scooters interfere with pedestrians and cause accidents.

Residents of both cities said that strict industry rules and restrictions are needed, Kommersant writes, citing a Superjob study.

Respondents are also certain that infrastructure for scooters and bicycles should be created, including lanes for traffic.

State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin promised on August 29 to “be sure to study” at least options for “increasing responsibility” when riding electric scooters. He noted that the number of accidents of this type has multiplied by more than 40 since 2019.
