A photo of the alleged crash site of the Russian mission Luna-25 has appeared online. It was published by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

NASA showed the possible crash site of the Russian “Luna-25”

The LRO of the US space agency photographed a new crater on the lunar surface. It is assumed that it appeared as a result of the collision of the “Luna-25” with an earth satellite.

According to NASA, there was previously no crater at the indicated location, as evidenced by the image from June 27, 2020.

After the unsuccessful attempt by Roskosmos to deliver the Luna-25 automatic station to the Earth’s satellite, NASA sent the team of the LRO team to obtain images of the accident site. In the images obtained, the experts found a crater with a diameter of about 10 meters.

On August 11, for the first time in 47 years, Russia launched a mission to the Moon: a Soyuz-2.1b rocket was successfully launched from the Vostochny cosmodrome, which was to carry an automatic station.

However, on August 19, because the engine did not shut down in time and ran for 127 seconds instead of the set 84 seconds, the Russian spacecraft collided with the Moon and crashed.

Subsequently, Roskosmos urged “not to turn a failed project into a tragedy” and allowed a new mission already in 2025-2026. In the department they indicated that the scientists and engineers are ready to continue working on the project.

A few days later, India became the first country in the world to land a station near the south pole of the Moon.
