Sonos said that American audio giant Sonos has purchased Delft venture Mayht for 92 million Euros. Mayht is known for compact speaker technology with an emphasis on small transducers. According to Sonos, the company “invented a revolutionary approach to audio converters”.
An inverter is a device that converts one type of energy into another. In audio converters, an electronic signal is converted into sound. Such pieces are the foundation of a speaker, and according to Sonos, the Dutch Mayht excels in compactness and transformative quality. “Mayht has redeveloped inverters to make components smaller and lighter without sacrificing quality.”
The acquisition by Sonos came after several legal disputes with the brand. The American company was involved in several patent disputes, including with Google. Buying a company means no patent fees have to be paid for that company’s technology.
