Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree under which IT specialists can now receive a deferment of up to 30 years from the military. Previously, this opportunity was only available up to the age of 27. The changes will take effect on January 1, 2024.
In order to benefit from the innovation, the specialist must work in an accredited IT firm under an employment contract at least 11 months before the call start date.
However, if he gets a job within one year after graduation, there is no seniority requirement. It is also required to have a higher education in one of the specialties on the government’s list, which includes mathematics, physics, statistics and others.
This move could be a boost for young IT professionals, as deferment from the military is now more affordable.
It is worth noting that in January 2023, the Ministry of Digital Transformation changed the rules for applying for deferment – now not only the employer can do this, but also the employee himself.
